For Christmas, I received a very nice present in the form of a Ipod Touch (or Itouch, which kind of sounds creepy and lecherous to me). I recently received some Itunes gift cards, and so in the last few days, I have been looking around at and examining Itunes.

Most everything that has to do with music on there is pretty straightforward: you get one song for one dollar, or you can buy an album usually for around ten. However, the situation gets a little bit stickier when you start looking at movie/television shows. You can buy a movie for either $10 or $15, which seems a little pricy, or you can rent it for $3.99.

Why would you rent it for that price? Are they trying to power sell by setting the prices so near to each other? I really don’t understand. I mean, renting would have to be about $0.99 per movie before their model would be attractive to the consumer, in my opinion. What do you think?

The thing about working two full time jobs is that, sooner or later, the exhaustion really gets to you. I remember when my dad took a second job as a newspaper deliverer. The way that job worked is that he had to get up at 2:30 in the a.m., go to the printing center, fold the newspapers, and then go through his route. He was lucky if he got home by 6. A couple of times, while he took a trip or something, I went and took his place for a few mornings, and it gave me a great appreciation for how much he loved us for him to be willing to go through such a ridiculous routine. I think my dad’s pretty amazing considering some of the tough luck patches that he’s gone through.

I guess my second job at the theatre doesn’t have as much of a love for others as it is a love for the experience, but I still am getting totally trashed by the stupid number of hours I’m putting in between my two jobs. With a month to go of the show, I’m left to seriously contemplate what kind of a crazy person would put himself through this.

However, even as wiped as I am right now, I always seem to forget about the limits of my body when I see that next audition, and I start to dream about being in that next show. I just wish I could get an extra helping of that optimism right now when it seems the most impossible.

Another opening, another show indeed.

I am a bit better off than I was the last time that I posted, but even so, I am still quite a ways away from being debt free. That being said, I am now engaged, and the wedding is scheduled for July. I am going to do everything that I can to become debt free by that point. It is the least that I can do for my sweetheart; there is no reason for her to inherit my debt because she is in love with me.

That being said, I am working my regular job and I am in a show that is paying me an extra few hundred bucks a week. This will prove to be good for the holiday season. Let’s see if I can’t chink away at the debt with this extra couple thousand that I’ll make before the end of the year.

My fingers are crossed.

Dear Sirs and/or Madams,

I understand that everyone has to make a living, and I suspect that your living is quite a prosperous one. With this in mind I offer one small suggestion.

Why don’t you die? Painfully, if possible. This takes care of your pesky problem of having to make a living and my pesky problem of having to sort through countless comments about or pertain to Viagra, Cialis, Propecia, and any other product that has to do with hair growth or blood pressure in a specific part of the male anatomy.

I hope that you will see that this is a win/win situation.

With love and utmost gratitude,

Your friend over at Finding Freedom.

I was tagged by Millionaire Artist to give a list of five things that I’m obsessed with. I will omit the “paying off the credit cards” obsession, as that one is probably pretty obvious.

1) Acting — I love the challenge of creating a character, as well as the opportunity to act in conjunction with characters other actors have created. I am constantly looking for ways to get better at it, as well as looking for other people who know more about it than I do in hopes that some of their wisdom will, through osmosis, get into my head.

2) Music — Whether it is listening to it, analyzing it, performing it, or some combination of the three, I remain pretty happy that I got my degree in music. I should have perhaps opted to go to a different school that the clown college that I went to, but that’s a different story.

3) Football — I was going to put sports, but I realized that the only sport that I really, really am concerned with is football. Sorry baseball. I still like you, but you kind of lost me when you went on strike in the mid-nineties for more money even though many of you were already making a butt-load.

4) Games — Whether it is a card game, a casino game, or a board game, you can bet that I probably have some strategy already in mind of how to play and win at it.

5) Books, and the Knowledge Therein – This mostly exemplifies itself in my life by the number of books I have and the number of books I want to read. It’s kind of cyclical, though. I go through spurts of loving to read and spurts of not really looking forward to it. It’s funny.

It seems that sometimes everything is about money, and, in the case of my friends’ upcoming divorce, part of the issue has to do with money, especially as money relates to what each person expected from life and from marriage.

I feel freedom to discuss this here as neither of them knows that this site exists.

Part of the story is that the two had decided that one of them should find a well paying job using skills learned in college while the other one went to graduate school to pursue a degree in photography. They had also decided that the one in school should also work. However, due to the demands of being in school full-time, any work would have to be of a part-time, and therefore, much less paying nature.

I’m not here to suggest that there are rigid, specific gender roles, but in this case, it appears that the wife had always kind of wanted to be in a position where she could be supported by her husband. It’s not that she expected everything done for her, she just expected more.

And, after two years of working with another year of grad school looming (albeit one without classes, so the husband could complete his thesis), it seems like she just didn’t want to be in that situation anymore.

From an objective standpoint (as much as I can be relied upon to provide one), it seems disingenuous to (apparently) agree to living a certain way for a time while your husband receives training that will, among other things, hugely increase his future earnings potential. However, I know that more often than not, decisions (particularly those involving emotions and relationships) are made from a subjective standpoint, not an objective one, and, though these are close friends, I will be the first to admit that I cannot possibly understand all of the variables in this relationship.

Obviously, I would like both of them to be happy, but it seems like their choices for happiness are, at this point, mutually exclusive events.

I cannot begin to imagine the incredible stresses on a person who is considering divorce.

I cannot begin to imagine how horrible it would be to receive divorce papers in the mail when you are thinking that things are going to work out.

I don’t understand how I can be friends with both people…after.

I apologize for the lack of posts lately, but a couple of friends of mine are pretty likely going to be getting divorced here in the near future, and, as I tend to be an empathetic person, much of my thoughts and concerns have been with them, and not really in the realms of personal finance.

They are young, and they’ve only been married a few years. They don’t have any kids, so I suppose that’s good in the long run.

I just thought that out of all of my friends, this would be the couple that would last.

It looks like there is a new convenience to be purchased. Are you sick and tired of waiting in long security lines at airports? If so, the Clear card is a card that allows passengers who have been pre-screened to get through the security lines at airports more quickly.

You will need to purchase the card from the Clear program that is run by Verified Identity Pass, Inc. With the 9/11 attacks still very much in our consciousness, I would think that any program like this would have to be run by the government if any such program were going to get to exist at all. But, that is not the case, although the website says that the Department of Homeland Security’s Transportation Security Administration (TSA) works closely with the company that runs it.

Further, it should also be noted that for every person that buys one of this cards, $28 of the purchase price of $99.95 goes to the TSA. It looks like the government isn’t taking any chances at losing any income.

There are only 5 airports/terminals that currently implement this system. They are Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky (CVG), Indianapolis (IND), New York JFK Terminal 7, Orlando (MCO), and San Jose (SJC). As I live in San Diego, obviously none of these locations are very helpful for me. However, the site claims that the Clear pass will soon be coming to other airports, so perhaps this will be useful to me in the future. Nevertheless, I would think that business travelers or other folks who often travel frequently that live near any of these airports would hop on this band wagon right away.

Do any of you travel enough to make this card a necessity? If so, what have been your experiences with it? If not, are you wary, like I am, at the prospect of folks misusing this program?
